Since December of 2016 I have had the amazing opportunity to teach English online from the comfort of my home. I happened to come across a link for the company and I had to do some research before I thought it was legit. Could I really work from home and make around $20 an hour?…It just sounded way too good to be true.
My journey to working with VIPKID started out with the goal of finding a side gig making an extra $500 per month without having to leave my young daughter. I also wanted a flexible work schedule and did not want to do direct sales. I have attempted two direct sells companies in the past and it just isn’t for me. VIPKID has been the answer. The process to become a teacher in the company involves a resume submission, brief one-on-one interview or recorded interview, training, and a mock class. The contract is six months in length and can be renewed. I am currently on my second contract and thoroughly enjoy seeing my regular students every week.
To become an independent contractor with the company applicants must meet a few requirements:
- Hold a bachelors degree or higher.
- Be a native English speaker.
- Have the technology to conduct the classes (computer or laptop, high speed internet, web cam, headphones).
Classes are 25 minutes in length and pay is via direct deposit once a month. Pay is determined during the interview and varies based on performance and education/experience. I’m beyond grateful to have had this opportunity to earn some additional income to achieve the financial goals as discussed in this post.
This is the first blog in a series to talk about my experiences with the company. If you are ready to take on the challenge of teaching the most adorable students please feel free to use my referral link. You can message me and I will help you through the process. VIPKID does compensate me for successful referrals with a one time payment (the amount varies depending on the incentive they are running that month).
